# Stimuli

Stimuli are the primary means of triggering vocalizations. The vocalizer responds to two different types of stimuli:

* Emotional stimuli
* Electrocution/overload stimuli

### Emotional Stimuli

When the vocalizer receives an emotional stimulus, the emotional AI processes the input and the grammatical AI vocalizes an appropriate response for R2's current emotional state.

Each possible emotional stimulus correlates to one of the emotional AI's four [emotions](/r2d2/features/emotions.md), and can be either mild or extreme in severity. Therefore, there are 8 (4x2) possible emotional stimuli.

### Electrocution/Overload Stimuli

When the vocalizer receives an electrocution/overload stimulus, the emotional AI processes the input as a combination of anger, sadness, and fear stimuli, and the grammatical AI vocalizes a special overload response.

{% hint style="info" %}
Canonical vocalizations stored to [memory](/r2d2/features/memory.md) will be reproduced organically unless memory playback is set to [strict](/r2d2/features/memory.md#strict-playback).
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.humancyborgrelations.com/r2d2/features/stimuli.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
